Pizza Burgers

Game Day Goddess Pizza Burgers

Pizza Burgers might be the perfect Super Bowl food.  Research says that three of the top ten foods served at Super Bowl parties are pizza, burgers and hearty sandwiches.  The Game Day Goddess Pizza Burger incorporates all three - a delicious way to cover a lot of yardage!

This is a day when every one should party hearty and throw calorie caution to the wind. The burger kicks off with everyone's favorite pizza seasonings.  It is seared and sauteed, loaded up with mozzarella and Italian five cheeses, garnished with tomato sauce and placed on a toasted, buttery, garlic brioche bun for a touchdown of a burger.

Ingredients

For Every 8 Burgers

3 pounds of 85% lean Ground Beef

1 1/2 cups of Bread Crumbs

3/4 cup of Whole Milk

3/4 Chopped Onion

6 cloves of Garlic, chopped fine

3/4 cup chopped Fresh Parsley

2 teaspoons Salt

2 teaspoon Pepper

3 Large Eggs, lightly whisked

1 teaspoon Dried Oregano

1 teaspoon Dried Basil

16 slices of deli-sliced Mozzarella

1 bag Shredded Italian Five Cheeses (I used Kraft(R))

2 cups of your favorite Tomato Sauce

For the Buns

8 Brioche Buns

3 tablespoon Melted Butter

Garlic Salt for sprinkling

For Sauteing

4 tablespoons of Butter (2 for each batch)

4 tablespoons of Canola or Corn Oil (2 for each batch)

Cooking Instructions

Preheat oven to 350 degrees.

Combine all the hamburger ingredients by hand. Form 8 large patties.

Prepare garlic brioche buns ahead by melting butter,  brushing it on buns with a pastry brush and then sprinkling bun with garlic salt.  Place buttered side up on a cookie sheet.  Set aside.

Place your favorite tomato sauce in a pot.  Set aside.

Place a large frying pan on medium heat for a minute until the pan warms.  Add 2 tablespoons of butter and 2 tablespoons of oil for every 4 burgers cooked, wiping pan clean between batches.  Or you can use two large frying pans. You must use butter and oil for the pan since these burgers are tender and will stick if you don't.

Saute the burgers on medium heat, searing one side at a time and cooking approximately 4 minutes per side.  The Gourmet Goddess uses a thermometer to test for done-ness.  For medium rare, saute to 145 degrees. For medium, saute to 160 degrees.  Do not overcook.

As the burgers are cooking, put brioche buns in the oven for a few minutes to warm slightly, brioche buns taste best when served warm and lightly toasted.  Place on plates.

Heat tomato sauce on medium low, stirring occasionally.

When burgers are almost done, place 1 slice of mozzarella cheese on each, sprinkle with about 2 tablespoons of shredded mixed Italian cheese and top with another slice of mozzarella.  Turn flame on very low setting and cover.  After a minute or two, cheeses will be melted.  Be vigilant!

Place burger on bun and top with tomato sauce.

Enjoy the pizza burger and the game!
